Graceling by Kristin Cashore
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Graceling is a cool action paced fantasy novel.
Summary from Goodreads:
Katsa has been able to kill a man with her bare hands since she was eight - she's a Graceling, one of the rare people in her land born with an extreme skill. As niece of the king, she should be able to live a life of privilege, but Graced as she is with killing, she is forced to work as the king's thug.
When she first meets Prince Po, Graced with combat skills, Katsa has no hint of how her life is about to change.
She never expects to become Po's friend.
She never expects to learn a new truth about her own Grace - or about a terrible secret that lies hidden far away...
I have really put off writing this review, so it might not be the greatest. However, I really liked the book. It is a fantasy, but an interesting one. Katsa is a Graceling. Gracelings have special powers, but live in an everyday world. As a Graceling, Katsa has two separate color eyes.
I loved how Katsa had a lot of self development. She figured out how to use her power for good. I also liked the plot twist. (view spoiler)[She is graced with Survival, not fighting. I loved that because it made her more human and real. (hide spoiler)]
I loved Po. He was so cute, and sweet. I loved how he hid his grace, and became her fighting partner. He was perfect and their romance was destined. I just wished Katsa would marry him.
The ending dragged a little bit with the travel, but the part with Leck was really sinister and evilly cool.
Overall, this is a good book for a fantasy.
